In this module, you will learn about federal and state constitutions and constitutional law, as well as the varieties of constitutional legal research that a practicing attorney might be asked to perform. The module will introduce and describe a wide array of research sources, including general tools like legal encyclopedias and jurisdiction-specific ones. You will exercise effective use of citators like Shepard’s and KeyCite as they relate to constitutions.
Constitutional legal research is in many respects quite similar to statutory legal research. This module will highlight some of their shared and distinct characteristics. Upon completion of the module you will have acquired a confident understanding of how attorneys and judges investigate constitutional legal issues. Moreover, you will be poised to do the research as a skilled legal researcher.
